At Silverton Primary School, students not only develop foundational language skills in Mandarin, but they also enhance their understanding of Chinese culture through a curriculum aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.
Students learn to recognize and use basic Chinese characters, form simple sentences, and engage in everyday conversations, such as introducing themselves, expressing likes and dislikes, and discussing familiar topics like family, food, and daily routines. They also explore Chinese festivals, traditions, and cultural practices, fostering intercultural understanding and respect.
The school also offers a weekly lunchtime LOTE club, where students engage in activities focused on Chinese culture. Silverton Primary School maintains a strong relationship with Yan Cheng Number One Experimental Primary School in Jiangsu Province as our sister school. We are also proud to host short-term exchange students from China, offering valuable cultural exchange experiences that allow students from both countries to develop a deeper appreciation for Chinese and Australian cultures.”
