LOTE - Mandarin

At Silverton Primary School, students from Foundation to Year Six learn Chinese Mandarin as their Language Other Than English (LOTE). Learning another language provides students with the skills and opportunity to participate as global citizens. Silverton students engage with Chinese cultures and language through a variety of immersion activities.

Silverton Primary School also offers extension lessons to meet the language learning needs of students with Chinese backgrounds.

We also have weekly Chinese cultural dance classes at lunch time. Students perform these dances at the school concert and at community events.

Silverton Primary School is proud to have Yan Cheng Number One Experimental Primary School in Jiangsu Province as our sister school.

Yan Cheng Number One Primary School from Yan Cheng Number One Education Group has been established since 1910. We are delighted to host visiting teachers and exchange students each year. This experience provides children from both countries the opportunity to appreciate and learn more about Chinese and Australian cultures.

Year five and six students also enjoy communicating with their Chinese peers through weekly Skype programs.
