Performing Arts

At Silverton Primary School, we offer several areas of performing arts.

Glee

Glee Club is a choral program offered to students from Grades 3 – 6. They rehearse once a week and participate in various performances within the school and wider community.

Students develop their pitch, breathing, posture, language and reading skills as well as their musical ear. Singing in a group is shown to have positive impacts emotionally and socially, thereby enhancing development and fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Drama

In Drama, students learn how to express and explore personal, cultural and social worlds as performers.

Students actively use drama elements such as body, gesture, movement, voice and language to take on roles that explore and depict real and imagined worlds. This process involves creating, rehearsing, performing and reflecting.

When using these elements, students explore, imagine and take risks to communicate ideas and stories which helps develop their confidence.

Dance

At Silverton Primary School, students take part in a fun, energetic dance program. Throughout this program, it is our aim to build confidence, creativity and expressive skills through movement.

Students learn high-energy, modern choreography which enables the development of body awareness, spatial awareness, coordination, rhythm, cardiovascular strength and flexibility. Our program also includes improvisational and own choreography activities which encourages students to explore and build on their own creative and expressive skills through dance.

Silverton organises many events for students to perform and display the skills and achievements they have learnt in dance. These events include the school concert, the twilight festival, the performing arts showcase and many more.

The dance program is provided for students in Foundation to Grade 4 weekly.

Additional dance programs we offer are:

  • State School Spectacular (Grades 3-6)
  • Dance Troupe (Grades 3-6)
  • Student Voice Groups (Grades 3-6)

Band

With a philosophy based around the need to maximise children's potential and prepare them for an ever changing world, Silverton Primary School takes great pride in their music program. The school has two bands, junior and senior, that rehearse weekly from the start of the year, with opportunities throughout the year to perform. The senior band finishes the year with a whole school performance and a band tour, performing a 35 minute set to other schools, gaining confidence and experience in equipment handling,
set up and stage craft.

Concerts

At Silverton Primary School, we have a bi-annual School Concert performance. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to showcase their accomplishments and to express themselves artistically. It is for the students to demonstrate the culmination of the many strands of learning that they have acquired over a period of time. This is an amazing event for our students and one that creates many opportunities for them to ‘shine’.
