At Silverton Primary School we acknowledge that strong literacy skills are essential for creating confident communicators, imaginative thinkers, and informed citizens. Literacy is integrated in all aspects of schooling. Our aim is to develop each individual student’s literacy abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening in order to position them well to succeed in the future.
All areas of the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 are explored through a rich literacy lens.
Workshops & Literacy GroupsDuring Workshops and Literacy Groups, students are exposed to different elements of the Victorian Curriculum, where teaching is differentiated and targeted to student’s individual needs. Lessons include targeted phonics work, explicit instruction, small group focus work and opportunities for independent and partnered practise.
Extension and InterventionThe varying needs of all students are met through the use of extension and intervention programs. These various programs are delivered by specialist teachers who aim to address the specific needs of all children. (Some examples of these programs include; DRA, SPELD, English as Additional Language (EAL) classes, VHAP, etc.)
