Swimming Program for Foundation to Grade 2 Students 2023

 

Educational purpose of the program:

Swimming and Water Safety is now a compulsory requirement of the Victorian Curriculum. The program includes emphasis on Water Safety and Survival and aims to promote fun and fitness. Our swimming program offers activities for everyone from the non-swimmer through to the competent swimmer. All participating students will receive a Victorian Water Safety certificate after the completion of the program.

Date:

Eight (8) days in August 2023: Lessons are 30 mins in duration

Monday 7th     Tuesday 8th     Thursday   10th   Friday 11th

Monday 14th   Tuesday 15th  Thursday   17th , Friday 18th

Students do not attend swimming lessons on Wednesdays.

Splash’s Swimming School, 137 Stud Road, Dandenong

Costs:

The cost of the program is $40.00 This includes the cost of the transport by bus, hiring of the pool facilities, administration fee and a (compulsory) swimming cap.

The cost of the 8 swimming lessons for your child has been provided at no cost to you. The Governments funding of Swimming in Schools after the past years has made this possible.

This cost is considerably less than previous years and is only applicable to this year’s swimming program.

 Please note that the buses, pool and instructors are booked and paid for in advance.  Therefore, there are no refunds for missed lessons.

A payment of $40.00 is required by Friday 28th July 2023.
Those parents that applied and qualified for the CSEF can use that money, if available, to pay for the program.

Times

Lessons will start at 10.30am and finish at 12.30pm each day. Individual class lesson times will be sent home closer to the date.

 Travel arrangements:

Students will be transported to and from Splash’s Swimming School, 137 Stud Road, Dandenong by bus.

Medication:

If your child suffers from a medical condition and we are unaware of this. Please contact the office as soon as possible to discuss further.

Activities within this program present the potential for students to sustain physical injury. The following procedures will be implemented – along with other strategies – to manage the potential risks in the program.

Students will be supervised at all times by staff. 

Pool/Water safety rules will be explained to students before they get to the pool.

Other Details:

On swimming days, students need to arrive at school with their bathers on underneath their Silverton uniform.

Students need to bring a small bag to hold their towel and underwear.

They also need a plastic bag for their wet bathers.

Students may bring goggles if they wish.

The school provides all students with a swimming cap.

Each item of clothing taken to the pool must be labelled with the child's name. No jewellery or watches are to be worn, as they are easily misplaced. Swimming caps will be distributed to the children at school just prior to their lessons.

Permission and Declaration:

Please provide permission on the Parent Sentral Portal / App.

By providing permission you agree to the following statements.

Student behaviour

‘I understand that in the event of my child’s misbehaviour or behaviour that poses a danger to himself/herself or others during the excursion, he/she may be sent home. I further understand that in such circumstances I will be informed and that any costs associated with his/her return will be my responsibility.’

Student illness

‘I understand that in the event excursion staff determine it is necessary for my child to be sent home early due to illness, any cost associated with his/her return will be my responsibility.’

Cancellations or Alterations

‘I understand that the principal may need to cancel or alter excursion arrangements at short notice, for safety reasons or due to circumstances beyond the control of the school, and while the principal will try to minimise inconvenience or financial losses to parents, these may be unavoidable.’

Student accident insurance and ambulance cover

The Department of Education does not provide student accident insurance or ambulance cover. Parents may wish to obtain student accident insurance from a commercial insurer and/or ambulance cover, depending on their health insurance.
