I Sea I Care Marine Ambassador Excursion

By Jayden and Leandro

Hi, we are two of your Marine Ambassadors. We are here to tell you some of the key things we did on our first excursion in Term One to the marine sanctuary at Rickett’s Point in Beaumaris. The excursion was super fun and I strongly encourage you to sign up for marine ambassador.

Now it’s time to talk about the excursion itself, the first thing you do when you get out of the bus is you go to a room at the Beaumaris Life Saving Club where the coordinators tell you all the rules and what you have to do. You set your stuff down and get your bathers ready so you can go snorkeling.

You get separated into four groups (each group is a different school) and get your masks, fins and wet suits ready. Finally you get assigned to an instructor and they take you into the water to have FUN! You follow your teachers and instructor out into the water and look at all of the different tiny little animals that live in the sea.

We saw creatures like sting rays, small banjo sharks, tiny fish, sea stars and sea urchins. We were surrounded by beautiful sea grasses and sea sponges/SpongeBob. We also got to eat some sea lettuce but it was really salty just like sea water.

At the end, we went to the rock pools where we found crabs and even jellyfish that had died. We found tiny crabs and we got to hold them in our hands.
