Silverton Student Committee Scores Big with Sports Posters
In a fantastic move to celebrate World Children's Day (officially November 20th), the Silverton Student Committee (SSC) has rolled out an inspiring new initiative designed to make recess and lunchtimes safer, fairer, and more fun for everyone at school!
The students of the SSC, led by Miss Perera and Mrs Connor have been working hard to solve a problem many schools face: sometimes, playground games get tricky because not everyone knows the same rules, or things get a little too rough.
Posters That Teach the Game
The main part of their project is a series of bright, eye-catching sports posters displayed around the school.
"We noticed that sometimes arguments happen because people don't know the rules for games like four-square, tennis, or even just tag," Elliotte, an SSC member in Grade 4. "These posters clearly show how to play, what the rules are, and most importantly, how to play safely and with respect."
The posters cover popular sports and games, making sure every student can learn the basic rules for a great game. This means less confusion and more time playing together!
Sports Ambassadors: Your Lunchtime Play Patrol
But the SSC didn't stop there. They knew that posters are great, but sometimes you need a helping hand in the moment. That's why they created the Sports Ambassadors.
At lunchtime in Week 7, members of the SSC put on special lanyards and walked around the playground as Sports Ambassadors. Their job is simple:
This terms program is a huge success. It’s clear the Silverton Student Committee has hit a home run for World Children’s Day!
