On Tuesday 18th of March, the Environment Captains, Krishiv and Jacob, and Archie from Grade Four attended the opening ceremony of the Micro forest at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery.
Last year grade three and four students from Silverton participated in a planting day at the Cemetery. The project’s goal was to build a Micro forest on land at Springvale Botanical Cemetery. The land was identified as an ideal place for a Micro forest due to the shape and size of the land. This space has been designed to create a habitat for local wildlife, including the blue tongue lizard which plays an integral part of the design. Once this space has been completed, it will provide the local community a space to connect with one another while also connecting with nature.
Archie was represented our school as one of the students who participated in the planting last year. He wrote a reflection which he shared with the staff from SBC, representatives from City of Greater Dandenong and other students and teachers from other participating schools.
Parents are invited to visit the Micro forest with their children.Click below image for larger map
