2025 Newsletter #2

Dear Silverton families,

I can’t believe we are fast approaching the end of Term One! Congratulations to all staff and students on a fantastic Term. It’s been a very busy Term!

You may have noticed in our pond area, a beautiful tribute to Kye Duclos. Thank you to Mrs Rickard for arranging this. We’ve chosen the pond area, as Kye loved spending time in the pond area when he was at Silverton and that coupled with his love of fishing, we felt it was a fitting space for us to remember Kye.

Our Foundation cohort have been attending school five days per week through the month of March and doing a brilliant job. Thank you to our Foundation team for the great work they have done in supporting our little people.

School Photos happened on Wed 5th March which all ran smoothly. Thank you everyone for your flexibility on the day and to our admin team for their work.

Our Marine Ambassadors group enjoyed an amazing excursion to Sorrento, snorkeling, swimming with seals and watching the dolphins swim around! Thank you to Mrs Blake for organising and to the staff and parents who went along to help out on the day.

Congratulations to our swimmers who competed at Division swimming on Tuesday 11th March. Some great results from our students. Thank you to Mrs Kittle for organising and coaching our swimmers.

Wednesday 12th March was an extremely busy day. We had our first day of NAPLAN for Year 3 and 5 students. We also had the first day of our School Review. Then in the afternoon, we held Play the Silverton Way for our 2026 Foundation students. Complete with a bonus afternoon thunderstorm! A big thank you to everyone for your work to make this a very successful day.

Friday 21st March was Harmony Day. Students were able to dress in their cultural dress or in orange to support the day. Thank you to Miss D, Mrs Luong and our student leaders for their work in making it a special day.

Our building project has now completed works in Learning Centre One, Two and Three. A big thank you to staff and students for their flexibility as the school undergoes this upgrade.

I’m excited to announce that we have now received funding for new roofing in several other buildings. This will include Learning Centre Four, Activities (Oshcare) room, Learning Centre Five and our Admin building. This is a great result for Silverton! I will give you an update on the construction dates when I know more in the coming weeks.

We are hoping to build on our collection of board games for our lunchtime clubs. If you have any board games that you no longer use, we would be very grateful for any games donations. If you are able to help, please deliver any games to admin.

A big thank you to all families who have made payment of their parent contributions and laptop payments via compass. If you need any help using compass or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak with the admin team.

Silverton has now become a Rubbish Free school! I’m asking that all families support this change by ensuring that lunch boxes are free from plastic wrappers. Some simple changes you can make to support this would be to take snacks out of their plastic packets and put them as well as sandwiches into small plastic containers in your child’s lunch box.

Once again, I would just like to welcome everyone back to Silverton and thank you for your ongoing support. We are looking forward to a great year!

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal

Parents Association Update

In 2024 the Silverton Primary School Parents Association worked with the amazing Tammy, Sue, and office administration team, to coordinate events and fundraisers that have both raised funds for Silverton Primary School, and also brought a long list of volunteers together which was fantastic! There were so many different people who have worked at each of the events and made them fun and enjoyable for the kids and families in attendance. With an hour or two of time from many volunteers at each event, this was a small commitment by individuals which has had a big team impact. We smashed our fundraising goal of $10,000, raising more than $15,000! This money funded the new laptop charging trolleys in the learning centres, and will contribute to more garden and outdoor area improvements - a big thank you to everyone who helped in 2024.

We look forward to continuing these efforts in 2025, with current and upcoming fundraising events including:

Term 1 - Cross County BBQ, Hot cross bun drive & Easter Raffle

Term 2 - Open Night BBQ & Mothers Day stall

Term 3 - Fathers Day stall

Term 4 - Production Night Stall, Slime Run and Twilight Festival BBQ & raffle

We look forward to continuing to bring the Silverton community together to have fun and support our school in 2025.

WIth thanks,

Laura Procter
