2023 Newsletter #8

Dear Parents/Carers,
We are now halfway through Term Three and the year is flying! As always, Term Three is a busy one.
I would like to congratulate our students for their efforts at Student Led Conference Day. It is always a great day, allowing our students to celebrate their learning. Thank you to all of our amazing staff for their contribution and to all of our family members who attended.
Just a reminder again to all families to please ensure that your children are arriving on time for school each day. Students who arrive after 9:00am are missing the opportunity to settle into their school day, receive important instructions from their teachers and to feel ready to learn.
Year five students enjoyed the Nazareth Taster Day on 26th July. Thank you to staff who were involved in making this an enjoyable and valuable experience for our students.
Thank you to the families who have paid their $5 fee for the Cyber Safety Project session. For those that have not yet made payment, please contact the office to do so. You can still access the recordings of the Parent Webinars. If you have not viewed them yet, I would encourage you to do so.
We have had some students visit Harrisfield Kinder to do some reading with the children. Thank you to staff and students that have been involved in this. We have good relationships with a number of Kinders in our area and our students love the opportunity to visit and work with the Kinder children.
We have had a large number of families engage the services of the Mobile Dentist over the last two weeks which has been great!
Congratulations to all students who recently completed in the AMT Maths Competition.
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Mario Kart Fuse Cup Competition last week. Thank you to Mr Tang for his coaching and organization, and a big congratulations to Raaga who was the overall winner of the competition and now progresses to the State Finals!
Our Swimming Program for students in Foundation to Year Two started on Monday. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn an important life skill. Well done to all students who have engaged in the program this week. It takes a huge amount of work to make this program work and I’d like to thank all staff involved in the swimming program for their efforts.
I would like to remind families that whilst we are not a ‘nut free school’, we do remind all children that we do not share food at school. If you are planning to bring in any food to celebrate your child’s birthday, please ensure that this food does not contain nuts and that it is individually wrapped. Thank you in advance for doing this.
As I mentioned in my last newsletter, our Parents Association fundraising goal is to reach $10,000 which will go towards upgrades to heating/cooling in our learning spaces and the installation of three new flag poles in our central courtyard. Our 2023 total is now up to $4,000 which is a great effort! If anyone is interested in volunteering their time to help with fundraising this year, please let the office know.
During Term Three, we will be focusing on the values of Gratitude and Curiosity. Staff will be nominating students who demonstrate these values at school. It would be beneficial to have a conversation with your children about Gratitude and Curiosity or even ask them if they can explain these important values to you. As we have now developed our descriptions of each value, I will include a value in each newsletter to show you all.
Once again, thank you for your ongoing support.
Mark Pollard
Principal

Just a few reminders:
Please ensure that your children are wearing full school uniform every day at school. If you require any assistance with uniform, please contact the school.
Please ensure you children are arriving at school before 9:00am each day.
I would appreciate you talking to your child(ren) about our new school values and why it is so important to demonstrate our values every day at school.
RESILIENCE – RESPECT – EMPATHY – GRATITUDE – CURIOUSITY
Parents, please do not park in the front car park unless you are someone who uses the disabled park.
Assembly will now be held in the gym every Monday at 8:50am.
We suggest that no student of Silverton Primary School should be using TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat. These apps are not considered safe for children.
Please help us reduce the amount of rubbish in the yard by providing your children with rubbish free lunches. We are also encouraging all students to bring rubbish free lunches to school. Please help us reduce the amount of plastic waste at school by providing lunches and snacks that do not have plastic wrapping or packaging. Sandwiches can be in plastic Tupperware containers as well as fruit or vegetables in small containers.
