Dear Silverton families,

Time is flying and I can’t believe that we are already in week five of Term Two!

Thank you to all of you who attended our Mother’s Day Breakfast. It was very well attended and so nice to have many of our families back into the school for a special function. I would also like to say a special thank you to all of the volunteers who helped run our Mother’s Day stall.

Year 4 Camp at Waratah Bay was a huge success last week. I’d like to congratulate our students for the way they conducted themselves on camp. I would also like to thank the staff who took time away from their own families to help make the camp a memorable experience for our year 4 students.

Well done to all of the students who walked safely to school last Friday. Even those who parked the car a little further from school so that they could also be a little more active and participate in an important day.

This week is Education Week and we have had lots happening at Silverton. The Book Fair has been running everyday before and after school in LC5. Last night we held our Open Night. I would like to say thank you to all of those who attended to make it a special night. Thank you to our volunteers who helped run the BBQ. Congratulations to all of the performers in both of our school bands, Glee Club and Dance Troup, you all did a fantastic job! Thank you also to all of the staff who contributed to making this an amazing Silverton event. I was very proud of our school community!

Today we are having a House Day that has been organized by our student leaders. The theme of the day is ‘Make, Move and Motivate’. It has been lovely to see students in their house colours, enjoying the day and making connections with students in other year levels.

Later this week we have students participating in a Chess Tournament as well as students at District Cross Country. Good luck to those who are involved!

I would like to say congratulations to Miss McNair and her partner who have welcomed a baby boy recently. We can’t wait to meet little Felix!

Miss Kumar will also be leaving to go on maternity leave at the end of next week. We are wishing her all the very best!

For the remainder of Term Two, Mrs Rickard will be the classroom teacher for 56S. We will provide an update on Miss Kumar’s replacement for Semester Two before the end of this term.

We have made a few changes to the canteen menu recently that I wanted to make everyone aware of. As we strive to take steps to becoming more healthy and reduce our plastic waste, there will no longer be any soft drinks available from the canteen. There are a number of drinks still available such as water and juices. Zooper doopers will now only be available on special occasions.

We are also encouraging all students to bring rubbish free lunches to school. Please help us reduce the amount of plastic waste at school by providing lunches and snacks that do not have plastic wrapping or packaging. Sandwiches can be in plastic Tupperware containers as well as fruit or vegetables in small containers.

Just a reminder that our Parents Association fundraising goal is to reach $10,000 which will go towards upgrades to heating/cooling in our learning spaces and the installation of three new flag poles in our central courtyard. Our 2023 total is now up to $4,000 which is a great effort! If anyone is interested in volunteering their time to help with fundraising this year, please let the office know.

During Term Two we have been focusing on the value of Empathy. Staff have nominated students who have displayed empathy towards others at school. It would be beneficial to have a conversation with your children about empathy or even ask them if they can explain this important value to you.

Just a reminder that Parent Contributions are still able to be paid. A reminder is being emailed out soon with relevant details.

This Friday is National Sorry Day. Our students will be spending some time in their Learning Centre assemblies learning more about the ongoing efforts towards reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Please note that Friday 9th June will be a Pupil Free Day. This is a Professional Practice Day for staff to work on Moderation. Oshcare will run for those families who require it. Please contact Michelle in Oshcare to book in.

Also a reminder that there is no school on Monday 12th June due to the King’s Birthday Public Holiday.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal (Acting)

Just a few reminders:

Please ensure that your children are wearing full school uniform every day at school. If you require any assistance with uniform, please contact the school.

I would appreciate you talking to your child(ren) about our new school values and why it is so important to demonstrate our values every day at school.

RESILIENCE – RESPECT – EMPATHY – GRATITUDE – CURIOUSITY

Parents, please do not park in the front car park unless you are someone who uses the disabled park.

Assembly will now be held in the gym every Monday at 8:50am.
