2022 May Newsletter 5

Silverton Primary School's 2022 Newsletter 5
NAPLAN
Congratulations and well done to all our Year 3 and 5 students for completing the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) over the past two weeks online. Thanks also to the teachers for the co-ordination and management of the online testing. Please keep in mind NAPLAN is only one of many assessments that students complete at Silverton Primary School.
Students reports and Student Led conferences will be available early next Term which will give you an indication of your child's progress for Terms 1 and 2.
Term 2 Learning Conversations
Next week (24 – 26 May), Silverton will be holding literacy learning conversations with parents and students to share Term One’s Reading and/or Writing learning intentions as well as your child’s personalised literacy goal/s. Please make sure you have access to Sentral to book. Booking Instructions
School Uniform Reminders
As Winter is fast approaching after the wonderfully mild weather that we have been having - we have noticed that students are not adhering to the school uniform policy. We understand that it can at times be difficult to get to the shops quickly - however as the weather has turned, it is a timely reminder for parents to ensure that their children are wearing the navy blue and white / red elements of our school uniform. There is also a lot of lost property items without names, please check tonight to make sure your child’s jumpers and jackets are named.
2023 Enrolments
We are now accepting Prep Enrolments for 2023. If you have a child that is ready to start school in 2023, please complete an enrolment form (which can be found on the school website or at the office) and submit it to the school together with a copy of your child's birth certificate, immunisation certificate and any visa details that are relevant. Enrolment forms can be dropped off at the office or emailed to: enrolments@silverton-ps.vic.gov.au
Younger siblings of current students are guaranteed a place at Silverton, but we still require an enrolment form to be submitted.
We are also running several school tours over the next few weeks. Tours can be booked via the school website -> here
Parents Association AGM
Parents Association AGM will be held on Tuesday 24 May in Learning Centre 5, at 7pm or online. At this meeting, we will need to elect a President and a Secretary. A general committee may be formed if appropriate, but that is not essential. We would love to see a big turnout for those who are keen to volunteer and play a part in helping us with the key activities we run throughout the year, support the school with fundraising and being a conduit for other parents in an informal sense. The Parents Association feeds back to school council and has significant input into the general direction of the school community. It is an incredibly valuable part of our school, and I would urge as many people to attend as possible.
Parent Contributions
School fees at Victorian government schools are voluntary, as stated in the parent contributions letter sent out last year. Silverton greatly appreciates those contributions made by parents to date. As such, for those who may not have contributed, we would appreciate your support so that we can continue to provide all of the extra-curricular activities and resources that your children currently enjoy. Even a part contribution or payment plan would be welcome.
BBQ – Election Day
On Saturday May 21st the Federal Election will be held and once again, Silverton will be a polling centre in our gym (enter via Jacksons Road). Running an election day BBQ is a vital part of maintaining our place as a popular community centre. Volunteers are still welcome, please let the office know by Friday.
Thank you to everyone who came to our Mother’s Day morning tea and to our volunteers at the Mother’s Day stall. It was great to see so many in attendance.
Congratulations to our Easter Raffle winners.
