August 2020 Newsletter

Silverton Primary School's August 2020 e-Newsletter

Dear Parents,

In a year, unlike any other, I write to you as our state enters Stage 4 Restrictions.  This decision is not entirely unsurprising, but distressing nonetheless, and it is now incumbent upon the School to do its part to ensure our community stays safe.

Remote Learning 2.0

Remote Learning 2.0 has begun smoothly for our school.  Staff, student and parent feedback so far has been that children have been actively engaged in learning tasks and their WebEx / Teams meetings.

Silverton’s focus for this Term is on assessing and collecting data in a remote environment.  That’s why it’s so important that students submit their work after each lesson / every week even if it’s not completed.  Students can always resubmit their task once it’s finished.   I would also encourage especially the grade 5 / 6 students to put on their videos for the start of every meeting.

 Face Masks

Just a reminder all parents and visitors to the school now need to wear a face mask. Primary aged students are exempt from wearing masks though.

School Review

Silverton was scheduled to have their School Review in Term 4 but the Department of Education has rescheduled it to Term 1, 2021.   As a school community we will still complete our Pre - review Self-evaluation (PRSE) this year.

Change of circumstances – On site supervision

The criteria for students that can attend on-site has changed as follows:

  • children whose parents are permitted workers. The Victorian Government will provide further advice about this over the coming days
  • vulnerable children in out of home care, children known to child protection and other agencies and children the school identifies as vulnerable
  • children with a disability who also fit one of the above two categories.

However, if your situation has changed and you can keep your child/ren at home, you must keep them at home. Make sure you let us know of the changes by phoning the school office on 9795 5033 or emailing admin@silverton-ps.vic.edu.au

If we look to the positive, we should be very proud of our school community as we have united together to ensure our students, teachers and parents are all safe.

To the teachers of our school.

Thank you for your unwavering dedication to the students that you teach and the learning that you provide. You have gifted our families certainty and security in a time when there was little.

To the parents of our school.

Thank you for your loyal support and understanding during a time, never known in the history of our school. You have united in your belief of the education we provide your child.

To the students of our school.
