2025 Newsletter #3

Dear Silverton families,

Welcome back to Term Two, I hope everyone had an enjoyable school holiday period. As I mentioned at assembly on Monday morning, it’s been a great start to the Term. Congratulations to our students for the way in which they have returned to school.

I wanted to start my newsletter by saying a big thank you to all of our lovely parent/carer volunteers who have helped us throughout Term One at various events and fundraising initiatives.

Congratulations to our winners of the Easter Raffle on the final day of the Term: Zoe FH, Aliyah 34C, Zahra 56M, Cadey 56M, Owen 56W and Kamila 56K.

House Cross Country Day was held on 28th March. Congratulations to all students for their efforts on the day. A big thank you to Mrs Kittle, Mr Peterson and all staff for their assistance on the day. Thank you again to our parent volunteers for their help with the BBQ! Good luck to those competing in District Cross Country.

Our Year Six students had a fantastic time at Camp Kookaburra during the last week of Term. Congratulations to all students for the way they conducted themselves at camp. A big thank you to the staff that went along as well as those who stayed back at school with our Year Fives.

I’m very happy to report that the current building project is now complete. Entry/exit through the Jacksons road gate is now back to normal. Thank you again to everyone for your flexibility throughout the building works. I will provide everyone with an update on the next project for which includes new roofing for the Admin building, Learning Centre Five and the Activities Room when I know more in the coming weeks.

Our School Review process has now finished and I look forward to sharing the new School Strategic Plan with our community once I have the final copy. Thank you to the parents/carers who assisted with the process. Thank you also to all of our staff and students for their great work throughout our school review.

Last Thursday our school captains and vice captains ran our special ANZAC assembly for the whole school. Thank you to our student leaders for doing such a great job and a big congratulations to all students for showing the respect that the assembly deserved. I was very proud of them! Our school captains also attended the ANZAC Day ceremony at the Noble Park RSL and represented our school very well. Thank you to Mrs Luong for also going along with them, much appreciated.

This afternoon we are holding a STEM afternoon for our 2026 Foundations. As always, we are looking forward to welcoming another cohort of students to Silverton next year. If you know anyone who is looking for a school in 2026 please encourage them to contact the school office to book in a school tour.

On Friday 9th May we will be holding our Mother’s Day Breakfast in Prosser Hall before school from 8:15am. Then throughout the day we will be running the Mother’s Day stall. Looking forward to welcoming our Mother’s, Grandmothers and special family members along to Silverton next Friday morning.

Please RSVP to Breakfast here

Silverton’s Open Night is coming up on Thursday 15th May from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. It’s always a great night. I’m looking forward to seeing you all there and showcasing our beautiful school.

I wanted to say thank you to John Mooney, the Principal of Emerson for donating a lovely hand made dolls house for our Foundation students to enjoy playing with. The dolls house was made by a 91 year old Gentleman by the name of Vin who’s hobby is woodworking. On behalf of Silverton, we want to say a big thank you to Vin!

We are hoping to build on our collection of board games for our lunchtime clubs. If you have any board games that you no longer use, we would be very grateful for any games donations. If you are able to help, please deliver any games to admin.

A big thank you to all families who have made payment of their parent contributions and laptop payments via compass. If you need any help using compass or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak with the admin team.

Silverton has now become a Rubbish Free school! I’m asking that all families support this change by ensuring that lunch boxes are free from plastic wrappers. Some simple changes you can make to support this would be to take snacks out of their plastic packets and put them as well as sandwiches into small plastic containers in your child’s lunch box.

Once again, I would just like to thank you all for your ongoing support.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal

A few Reminders

  • Please ensure that your child(ren) are in full school uniform. If you have any questions about uniform or require any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

  • Arrival time: For safety reasons, students should not arrive at school before 8:45am. This is when staff begin before school yard duty. • Pick up time: School finishes at 3:15pm every day. If you require your child to be supervised later than that, please also enquire with our Oshcare program.

  • Please DO NOT park in the disabled carpark unless you are permitted to do so.

Ahoy There! Term 2 Adventures in Foundation

We’ve had a fantastic start to Term 2 in Foundation! The children have returned with enthusiasm and curiosity, ready to dive into new learning experiences.

This term, our classroom has been transformed into a pirate-themed wonderland! Our imaginative play space now features a Pirate Ship, encouraging creative role-play, collaboration, and rich language development. But the fun doesn’t stop there — our pirate theme is woven throughout our curriculum, making learning even more engaging and meaningful. We’re thrilled to see the excitement and engagement this theme is bringing to our learning. It’s going to be a term full of discovery, imagination, and growth!
