2024 Newsletter #12

Dear Silverton families,

The year has flown and once again I can’t believe that we are only a week away from the end of the school year!

We have packed so much into Term Four and so I have quite a few things to say both congratulations and thank you for.

Well done to our Year 3-6 students for their efforts with the swimming program. Thank you to Mrs Kittle for her organization and to all the staff for their assistance.

Congratulations to the students who travelled to the Gold Coast to compete in the Fuse Cup tournament. Amazing effort! Thank you to Mr Tang once again for his coaching and organization and a special congratulations to Alex Hunter who was the National Champion in the Mario Kart Tournament! Thank you also to the people who volunteered at the Bunnings BBQ to raise funds to support our students who competed in this tournament.

We have now had all four 2025 Foundation Transition sessions. It’s been fantastic to see our next cohort of students coming along and lovely to start getting to know some new families.

Our current Foundations enjoyed their farm excursion on the 21st Nov. Thank you to all of the staff who organized the excursion and went along on the day to make it a memorable experience for our little people.

On the 22nd Nov we held our annual Slime Run. Congratulations to all of our students for their efforts in fundraising and also their participation on the day. Thank you so much to all of our parent/carer volunteers who helped in making this yet another fantastic Silverton event!

A big congratulations to our Year 5/6 students for their efforts on Market Day. It was so great to see all of their efforts come to fruition on the day. Thank you also to the Year 5/6 staff for all of their work in putting the day together and also the admin staff for supporting the financial aspect of Market Day.

The students involved in the Children’s University Program had their Graduation Ceremony on 27th November. Congratulations to the group! Thank you to Miss Duong and Mr Ong for running this program with our Silverton students.

Twilight Festival was held on Thursday 5th November and once again it was an awesome night. Thank you to everyone who attended. Congratulations to all of our students who performed on the night. A big thank you to our volunteers and staff who helped in the set up and on the night. A special thank you to Miss Penelope, Miss Molly and Alex for their great work in putting together all of the performances and supporting our students.

Congratulations to all of the Year Five students who delivered their speeches for 2025 leadership positions. Congratulations to those who were voted into leadership roles by their peers.

Yesterday our Year Six students attended their Year 7 Orientation Day. I’m sure that they were both nervous and excited which is normal. I hope it was a great experience for all!

Wednesday is the Performing Arts Showcase held in Prosser Hall. It’s always a great day and awesome to see the students involved in the instrumental program perform to an audience. Thank you to Miss Penelope, Alex and also Mr Palamara for their work in making it such a great day.

Tomorrow is our Year Six Graduation Ceremony. I’m very much looking forward to celebrating this significant achievement with our Year Six students, staff and families.

Our building project is progressing nicely. Learning Centre Three works are now complete, and the builders have now moved onto Learning Centre Two. A big thank you to all staff and students for their flexibility as we work through getting new roofing and new heating/cooling to several buildings.

A reminder that we are still taking enrolments for 2025 Foundations. If you know someone who will be starting school in 2025, please encourage them to contact the school for a tour.

So far in 2024 our Parents Association have raised $16,372.56. Amazing! Thank you so much to all who have helped us so far this year!

A final reminder that the last day of school is Wednesday 18th December and school finishes at 1:30pm on this day.

Once again, thank you to all members of our community for your ongoing support.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal

Congratulations to Alex for receiving the Silverton Value Adder Awards for Curiousity.

Julian Hill Awards

On Sunday 6th December Henry Procter received the Julian Hill Community Award from Julian Hill MP. Henry was nominated by his Grade 6 Teachers and their nomination is below. Well done Henry, we are all so proud of you.

Henry consistently displays kindness and helpfulness towards both teachers and fellow students, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. His role as school captain further highlights his leadership abilities and commitment to the school community. For example, he runs whole school assemblies, attends community events and represents the school at Marine Ambassadors workshops. Henry demonstrates a commendable work ethic by completing tasks on time and regularly puts his best effort into his work. This has seen him achieving marks 18 months ahead or more in both English and Mathematic subject areas. He has a genuine passion for the environment and working collaboratively with different teams. He is a kind and respectful student who is a role model for our school community at Silverton Primary School.

LC4 Market Day: A Fantastic Success!

What an amazing day our school had for Market Day! The Grade 5/6 students worked incredibly hard and made it all happen. The morning was buzzing with energy as they set up their stalls, organised their money, and prepared everything to ensure their businesses were ready to go for the big event. The students ensured to apply all the skills they’ve learned in the classroom, such as budgeting, teamwork, and communication. It was inspiring to see them work together to make sure their stalls were neat, their prices were clear, and their items were ready to sell.

Market Day wasn’t just about the students though; it was wonderful to see so many parents and other students come along to support the event. The Grade 5/6 students thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the school community, explaining their products, and even negotiating with customers! Overall, it was a fantastic day, filled with laughter, learning, and lots of fun. The students took away valuable lessons from the day, and it was a pleasure to see the whole school come together in such a positive and lively way.
