2024 Newsletter #8

Dear Silverton families,

I can’t believe we are more than halfway through Term Three.

Congratulations to all of our students for their fantastic Student Led Conferences. Thank you also to our staff for their efforts in supporting all students and to families for coming along and making it a special event.

Our students enjoyed an Olympic themed House Day on Friday 26th July. Thank you to Mrs Kittle and the student voice group who organised the day, it was fantastic!

A big congratulations to all of our F-2 students for their efforts on the swimming program and a big thanks to all staff for their flexibility.

The Foundation students and teachers celebrated 100 days of school on 31st July. We saw some excellent costumes from both the staff and students! Congratulations Foundations, what an achievement!

Our Chess team have competed at both Karingal PS and Hampton Park PS this Term and did really well at both tournaments. 2nd place and 1st place. Congratulations! Thank you to Miron for his coaching on both days.

Last week was Bully No Way Day. Our staff and students dressed in purple to acknowledge this day. This week is a fitting reminder to all members of our Silverton community that we expect everyone to exhibit our school values.

Last Thursday and Friday were our Junior and Senior Athletics Days. Both days were great Silverton events! Thank you to Mrs Kittle for her organisation of both days and to all of our staff for their help on the days. Congratulations to all students for their efforts! I’m so glad that the weather was kind to us on Friday!!

This week we are celebrating Book Week with a special day on Friday. Students can dress as their favourite book character. Students in costume will get to take part in a parade in the afternoon, parents are welcome to join us at 2:45pm in Prosser Hall. 3-6 students are also having an author visit from Vanessa Jefferson who is actually an ex-staff member of Silverton PS.

You may have noticed that we have finally had the power poles removed from the Southern end of our school near adventure playground. We have been working closely with United Energy and Power Partners to complete this project.

Thank you to all parents/carers who have logged on to Compass, our new student management system. It is very important that all families please log on if you have not already. If you require any support with Compass, please contact the office.

We are currently taking enrolments for 2025 Foundations. If you know someone who will be starting school in 2025, please encourage them to contact the school for a tour.

So far in 2024 our Parents Association have raised $6,398.40. A fantastic effort! Thank you so much to all who have helped us so far this year! Our goal is to raise funds for some new drink taps and some more sports equipment for the sports trolley.

Once again, thank you to all members of our community for your ongoing support.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal

Chess

Our Chess players have been in 2 tournaments in the last month and have been extremly competitive.

We had the top two players individually, and as a team finished second in the team competition by a half point.

Most recently three finished on top of the ladder individually and were a clear winner as a team.

A fantastic effort to all involved. Congratulations

Congratulations to Jessie for winning the Silveton Value Adder Award for Gratitude.

WELL DONE Jessie.
