2024 Newsletter #5

Dear Silverton families,

On 30th April we held our Foundation STEM afternoon. Thank you to all families who attended. Thank you also to all staff and student leaders who helped run the session. It’s always lovely to meet some of our future Foundation students. If you have a child or family member who will be starting school in 2025, please encourage them to contact the school for a tour.

We had some of our student leaders attend the Children’s Advisory committee on 1st May. Thank you to Miss Plasencia for taking the students along on the day.

Congratulations to the students who competed at regional tennis on 2nd May!

House Cross Country Day was held on Friday 3rd May and was a fantastic day. Thank you to Mrs Kittle for her organization of the day. Thank you also to all staff who helped with the set up and running of the day and a big congratulations to all of our students. Following House Cross Country, we had a number of students progress to District Cross Country and perform extremely well. Silverton were the overall winners at District Cross Country. What an effort!! We now also have 9 students progressing to Division Cross Country on Friday 24th May. Best of luck to these students!

Thank you to all parents/carers who attended Literacy Learning Conversations in week four. A big thank you to our staff for all of your efforts. Once again, it was lovely to have lots of our Silverton community engaging with staff.

Thank you to our SSC for organizing Walk to School Day on Friday 10th May and well done to all those who participated by walking, riding or scooting to school.

Thank you to the staff and volunteers who helped with both, the Mother’s Day morning and the stall. Lovely to see so many family members come along for the morning. Thank you also to those who donated items for the Mother’s Day stall, much appreciated.

Open Night was a huge success on Wednesday 15th May. As always, it was great to see so many of our families there to help make it another fantastic Silverton event! Thank you to all staff for the work in the lead up to and on the night. Thanks also to the staff and volunteers who ran the BBQ! As always, we are very grateful of your assistance in making these events a success.

Last week was Education Week which included our Term Two House Day, our Silverton Book Fair and of course our Open Night. Thank you to staff and student leaders for their preparation and running of House Day. Thank you to all staff and students for their contribution on the day. Thanks also to Christine for running our Book Fair.

Last Friday we were very fortunate to have Eden Foster – Member for Mulgrave, visit our school. She spent some time speaking with students in our Breakfast Club and Early Bird Reading program in LC4 before school, as well as a walk around our school. We thank her for her giving us some of her time and hope to have her back again in the future.

So far in 2024 our Parents Association have raised $6,398.40. A fantastic effort! Thank you so much to all who have helped us so far this year!

Our SSC Committee and our Student Leaders have been brainstorming some ideas for a 2024 fundraising goal. I will update you on this once we have made a decision.

Lastly, you may have noticed we have now had the ‘Prosser Hall’ signage installed on the outside and entrances to the Gym building which of course will now be known as Prosser Hall. Just another way in which we as a school community will remember Ms Prosser.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal
