2024 Newsletter #4
Dear Silverton families,
Welcome back to Term Two! The Term is off to a great start so thank you to all of our staff, students and families for their efforts.
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Fuse Cup competition at Haileybury late last Term. Thank you to Mr Peterson for going along on the day to support our students.
Congratulations to the students who competed in the Chess tournament at Karingal PS late last Term. They were champions once again!

Thank you to our parent volunteers who organised the Easter Raffle and the Hot Cross Bun drive. Another amazing effort! Congratulations also to our Easter Raffle Winners: Aliyah 12D, Kaviya 56W, Xavier FH, Elisha 34T and Harley B 12M.

Our SSC Committee and our Student Leaders have been brainstorming some ideas for a 2024 fundraising goal. I will update you on this once we have made a decision.
Interschool Sport finals were held at Silverton last Thursday. Congratulations to all participants. We had a number of Silverton teams progress to finals including our Mixed Tennis and Mixed Softball teams who were champions! Thank you to Mrs Kittle for her organization and to all staff who coached and umpired on the day.
Open Night is coming up on Wednesday 15th May. We hope to see many of our families there as it will be another fantastic Silverton event!

Author Louise Park visited us on Monday and met with all the children to talk about being an author, and how to come up with ideas when writing books. She brought her new book, The Last Man Out, which was about her grandfather's experiences during World War II.

A reminder regarding our canteen which is now being run by Bocca Foods. The canteen will now be operating on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. This also means that students cannot purchase lunches or snacks on Mondays and Tuesdays from the canteen. The reason for the change is that there just aren’t enough lunch orders being placed on Mondays and Tuesdays for it to be financially viable for Bocca Foods to run the service on those days. Please remember that orders need to be made online by 9:30am each morning Wed to Fri. I would encourage families to use the canteen as you have done in previous years so we can ensure that this service continues.
Once again, thank you for your ongoing support.
Thank you,
Mark Pollard Principal

LC2 Maths Investigations
The children have been enjoying exploring concepts such as shapes, length and directions in Maths Investigations recently. They have loved the hands on experiences that the Maths Investigations lessons provide. Here you can see the foundations measuring the length of their bodies and also furniture in the learning centre using everyday objects.

LC1 Update
In Term 1 we celebrated Harmony Day. The Grade 1 & 2s made flags to represent them, their families and cultures. They enjoyed learning about the different cultures and traditions within our Silverton family.

LC 1 & 5 have made a great start to Term 2. Everyone came back with positive attitudes to learning and have settled in well.
Your child will have brought home information about their new Share Circle day for Discovery Time. It is important they remember this and remember to bring something to share with their peers on the allocated day.
Silverton Value Adder Award for Resilience
Congratulations to Kiarra for winning the Value Adder award fro Resilience.

Parents Association Update
In 2024 the Silverton Primary School Parents Association is hoping to raise at least $10,000 towards further improvements to our outdoor areas. There are lots of events coming up for parents and carers to be involved with, and we look forward to seeing you at those!
Our Term 1 fundraising events were a great success, with the Hot Cross Bun drive making a profit of $360, and the Easter Raffle making a massive $1,535! Thank you to everyone for your orders, ticket purchases, and donations towards the raffle. A special mention to Louise Heard for her coordination efforts – amazing job!

Fundraising Events: Volunteers for Term 2
Term 2 is set to be a fun and busy time at Silverton Primary School! We would love your help at one or more of the events that are coming up. Last year our fundraising efforts were a great success, and it was only possible with the help of lots of volunteers - thank you again to all involved!
If you have a Working With Children Check (free to apply for as a volunteer) and have a spare hour or two, we would love your help at one or more of our upcoming events.
In Term 2 we need volunteers to help with:
- House Cross Country BBQ: Friday 3rd May
- Mothers Day Stall: Friday 10th May
- Open Night Barbeque: Wednesday 15th May
Please indicate your availability for each event using the form link, and we will contact you to confirm details in advance of each event.
Thank you in advance
