2024 Newsletter #3

Term 1 finishes at 2:30pm this Thursday, 28th March.
School returns on Monday 15th April at 8:50am for Assembly.
Dear Silverton families,
As we come to the end of Term One, I’d like to congratulate all staff and students on a fantastic start to the 2024 school year. I’m very proud of everyone.
I would like to wish all of the students observing Ramadan at the moment a Ramadan Mubarak.
Our Year Six students enjoyed a day at Lyndale Secondary College on Tuesday 5th March. A little taster of what Secondary College life will be like. Thank you to all of our staff who attended.
Our Marine Ambassador group had a beach excursion on Thursday 7th March. Thank you to the staff who went along on the day and to Mrs Blake for planning the day.
Congratulations to all of our Year 3 and Year 5 students for the amazing efforts on NAPLAN over the last two weeks. Thank you also to our staff for all that they have done to support our students through NAPLAN.
Congratulations to the students who competed at Division Swimming last week. They all did extremely well.
Some students from LC4 were lucky enough to go along to the Grand Prix at Albert Park on Thursday. Thank you to all staff who attended what was a great day out!
Last Thursday was Harmony Day. It was lovely to see so many staff and students dressed in their cultural dress or in orange.
For those of you who where not at our info and BBQ night, here are a few key points from me:
- Please read our Statement of Values Policy as a reminder of the expectations we have for our students, staff and parents.
- If you have any concerns, feel free to see me anytime however I do ask that you are respectful that teachers time is precious so please book an appointment.
- Parent Contributions can be made anytime by visiting or calling the office.
- Please DO NOT park in the disabled park unless you are permitted to do so.
- For safety reasons, please ensure you are crossing at the school crossings. Please also DO NOT do u-turns in front of the school.
- Students should not be arriving at school before 8:45am.
- Thank you for your support. If you need anything, please ask!
A reminder to parents regarding parking on the street. Please obey all signs to avoid being fined.
An update regarding the canteen which is now being run by Bocca Foods. From the beginning of Term Two, the canteen will only be operating on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The reason for the change is that there just aren’t enough lunch orders being placed on Mondays and Tuesdays for it to be financially viable for Bocca Foods to run the service on those days. Please remember that orders need to be made online by 9:30am each morning. I would encourage families to use the canteen as you have done in previous years so we can ensure that this service continues. Click for Registration details and the menu.
A reminder that the last day of Term One is Thursday 28th March and we finish the school day at 2:30pm.
Once again, thank you for your ongoing support. I hope everyone has an enjoyable break and we will see you all back at school on Monday 15th April.
Thank you,
Mark Pollard Principal

Mobile Phones

Silverton Primary School believes the teaching of cybersafety and responsible online behaviour is essential in the lives of students and is best taught in partnership between home and school. Safe and responsible behaviour is explicitly taught at our school and parents/carers are requested to reinforce this behaviour at home. This Term, we have reminded students about the appropriate use of mobile phones and devices. Students must hand any privately owned mobile devices (eg. mobile phone) to the office at the beginning of the school day to be locked away for the duration of the school day. Students must use their smart watch appropriately. This means they will not send, receive or read text messages, make or receive phone calls, or use the camera function on my smart watch. Note that this is a Ministerial policy formally issued by the Minister for Education under section 5.2.1(2)(b) of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). Our school Mobile Phone Policy.
