2023 Newsletter #4

Header

Dear Silverton families,

Welcome back to Term Two. It has been a great start to our Term and I wanted to begin my newsletter by congratulating our students for the way they have returned to school.

Staff and students enjoyed our Learning Centre House Day on the first day of Term, engaging in activities centered around our new School Values.

Cross Country Day was a huge success and we were also extremely lucky with the weather! Thank you to Mr Blundell for his organisation and to all staff and pre-service teachers for their assistance in making this a great day for our students. I was also very impressed with the way our students participated in their events. We are looking forward to seeing some of our students progress to the next stage.

I’d also like to say a special thank you to the volunteers that helped with the BBQ on Cross Country Day.

On Monday this week we had our first assembly in the gym. It was lovely to have so many parents/carers in attendance. Well done to the students for remembering our expectations when attending assembly. Please note that we will now be running assembly every Monday at 8:50am in the gym.

Thank you to the parents who attended our Parents Association meeting last week to brainstorm fundraising ideas for the school in 2023. Our goal is to reach $10,000 which will go towards upgrades to heating/cooling in our learning spaces and the installation of three new flag poles in our central courtyard. If anyone is interested in volunteering their time to help with fundraising this year, please let the office know.

Thank you to all of you that have attended Literacy Learning Conversations this week. It’s lovely to see more of our community at the school engaging in valuable conversations. For those of you wishing to still make an appointment please contact your child’s literacy workshop teacher or the school office.

On Friday 12th May we will be having our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast before school at 8:15am as well as running the Mother’s Day Stall throughout the day. We hope to see you there!

During the month of May we will be focusing on the value of Empathy. Staff will be nominating students who have displayed empathy towards others at school. It would be beneficial to have a conversation with your children about empathy or even ask them if they can explain this important value to you.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal (Acting)

Just a few reminders:

I would appreciate you talking to your child(ren) about our new school values and why it is so important to demonstrate our values every day at school.

RESILIENCE – RESPECT – EMPATHY – GRATITUDE – CURIOUSITY

Parents, please do not park in the front staff car park on Silverton Drive, unless you are someone who uses the disabled park.

Assembly will now be held in the gym every Monday at 8:50am

    Parents Association News

    Silverton Fundraising Update

Silverton Primary School's Parents Association has a long history of working with the school's leadership and staff team and community to raise funds which go towards school improvements. In recent years these have included upgrades to the outdoor play areas, the kitchen area in LC4, chairs in the gym etc.

    Our 2023 Fundraising Goal:

We are aiming to raise a minimum of $10,000 this year. The first project this will fund is the purchase and installation of 3 new flagpoles in the newly planted courtyard area, so we can proudly fly the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags along with the Australian flag.

    Our 2023 Progress:

Our Term One fundraising profit from the Easter Raffle and Hot Cross Bun drive was $2512- so amazing!! Thank you to everyone who got involved with these, they were a great success! We hope everyone enjoyed their Hot Cross Buns and the Raffle winners were happy with their prizes!

    Upcoming Term Two Fundraising Events:

    - Mothers Day Stall - Friday 12th May

    - Open Night BBQ - Tuesday 23rd May

We will need volunteers to help with both the Mother's Day Stall and the Open Night BBQ - please watch out for emails about this and jump in and assist for an hour or so - it would be greatly appreciated.
