100 Days of School for our Foundations

Last Friday our Foundation / Prep children celebrated their 100th day of school. It was great to see so much excitement in all classes with fun activities based on the number 100. We are very proud of the way our foundation children have started off their learning journey at Silverton Primary School and look forward to watching them continue to flourish into engaged learners who embrace our school’s learning values. Congratulations Foundations!!
STUDENT SAFETY
A few parents have expressed their concerns about several road safety issues they are witnessing at the start and end of the school day. When parents are unable to locate a carpark, they stop in the middle of the road or double park and let their children in or out. These students then run across the road into school - with some students narrowly being missed by oncoming traffic or a moving car in Jackson’s Road car park. This is a very dangerous act as many cars travel too quickly or are already backing out and the odds of a child being hit are increased.
As a school community, we are all aware of how busy the surrounding streets of our school can be - therefore it is important that children and parents only cross at supervised areas. We ask that all our parents do the right thing, park safely and have your child cross at the designated crossing areas. That way we can keep our children safe.

2022 Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA) Approval The Fair Work Commission recently approved the new VGSA. The agreement commences operation from Monday 25 July 2022 with a nominal expiry date of Wednesday 31 December 2025. Principals were provided with the official Implementation Guide describing the key changes late on the afternoon of Friday 22nd July.
Many of the provisions in the new VGSA have been carried forward from the previous iteration, however, there are some significant changes including a staged reduction in face-to-face teaching time to a maximum of 21 hours in 2024.
In addition, new Time In Lieu provisions will need to be worked through, as these will affect out of hours activities such as Twilight Festival, the Art Show, Open Nights, Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences and from 2023, camps. How we manage these events in the future will need to be worked through over the coming months. Working out our ‘local agreement’ will take time and effort to get the best arrangements for both our students and staff.

Take care
Amanda
