Dear Parents/Carers,

I can’t believe we are already half way through Term Four, the year is flying!

Thank you to everyone who attended Numeracy Learning Conversations earlier in the Term. It was great for Parents and Teachers to meet and talk about their child's work.

During week three of the Term, our Foundation students enjoyed their second visit from the Fire Brigade. It was an exciting day for our little people with some important learning.

A big thank you to Kellie for visiting Silverton and speaking to all of the students, giving them a greater understanding of the story behind her indigenous painting.

Our students enjoyed the Halloween disco and special lunch on Friday 20th Oct. Thank you to Molly and Dre for running the disco and also to our parent volunteers who came along to help on the day.

Well done to the students who participated in the Interschool Sports tennis finals in week four. Great effort!

We had a big group of students go along to participate in the Volleyball Victoria tournament earlier this Term. Well done to all students and a thank you to the staff who went along to support the day.

We have a National Champion at Silverton! Congratulations to Raaga who is the national Esports champion for Mario Kart! More on this in Mr Tang’s article.

Our Foundations enjoyed an exciting day at Chesterfield Farm on the 27th Oct. A big thank you to all of the staff who went along to help make it a great day for our students.

Congratulations to our students in years 3-6 for the way they have conducted themselves during our swimming program. Thank you to the staff who have played a role in organizing the program and for assisting with supervision.

Well done to our chess team for a great effort at the state finals last week in Balwyn. Thank you to Mr O’Connor for taking the students on the day.

This Thursday is the Year Two sleepover. I’m sure our students are very excited. Thank you in advance to the staff who are attending the sleepover. We appreciate you!

We are looking forward to holding our first transition session on Tuesday 14th November for our 2024 Foundation students. We are excited to have them here and hope they enjoy their first session at Silverton. Thank you to the staff who will be helping run the activities.

Just a few reminders:

- Since Halloween we have noticed that students are bringing lots of lollies to school. We encourage eating fruit, rather than lollies.

- Please ensure that your children are wearing full school uniform every day at school. If you require any assistance with uniform, please contact the school.

- Please ensure you children are arriving at school before 9:00am each day.

- I would appreciate you talking to your child(ren) about our new school values and why it is so important to demonstrate our values every day at school.

RESILIENCE – RESPECT – EMPATHY – GRATITUDE – CURIOUSITY

- Parents, please do not park in the front car park unless you are someone who uses the disabled park.

- Assembly will now be held in the gym every Monday at 8:50am.

- We suggest that no student of Silverton Primary School should be using TikTok, Instagram or Snapchat.  These apps are not considered safe for children.

- Please help us reduce the amount of rubbish in the yard by providing your children with rubbish free lunches. We are also encouraging all students to bring rubbish free lunches to school. Please help us reduce the amount of plastic waste at school by providing lunches and snacks that do not have plastic wrapping or packaging. Sandwiches can be in plastic Tupperware containers as well as fruit or vegetables in small containers.

Fire Safety with Foundations

First we learnt about special helpers and their equipment. Students were then encouraged to discuss fire safety at home with their families, including identifying a safe meeting place for the whole family in an emergency such as a fire. Following this, we had 2 special visits from the Firefighters. During the first visit, the Firefighters taught us all about -

  • Good fires and bad fires
  • Crawl Low in Smoke
  • Safe Meeting Place
  • What is an Emergency? 000 (Triple Zero)

The second visit was very exciting for our Foundation students. The lesson began with learning what to do if there is a house fire - Stop, Drop, Roll, Cover. Then we headed outside to learn all about the special equipment on the fire truck. Some students were lucky enough to hold some equipment or even sit in the fire truck!

The Foundation students would like to say a

very big thankyou to the wonderful firefighters at

Station 87 - Dandenong!

Planning for 2024

Term 4 is the time of year when we start planning for the following year.

We need to know how many students will be attending the school so that we can work out class structures and staffing arrangements.

Therefore, as well as knowing how many new enrolments we can expect, we also need to know of any current students who will be changing schools at the end of the year.

Please also remember to keep your contact/employment details up to date by updating them on the Sentral Parent Portal or sending an email to admin@silverton-ps.vic.edu.au.

Please complete this short form if you have not already.
