2023 End of Term 3 Newsletter #10

Header

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we near the end of Term Three, I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to our staff, students and families for a great term. We have certainly achieved a lot in ten weeks and I’m sure everyone is ready for a well-deserved break.

Silverton had a group of environmentally minded students attend the Marine Ambassador’s excursion on 31st August. Thank you to Mrs Blake and Mrs Baxter for taking the students along.

A big thank you to Tammy, Mrs Mourant, Laura Procter and all of the parent volunteers who helped with both our Father’s Day stall and the Father’s Day evening. It was lovely to see so many students and family members come along to enjoy the night together.

Congratulations to the students who attended the Fuse Cup competition at Haileybury College last week and thank you to Mr Peterson for taking the students along on the day.

Last Friday, Silverton hosted an Esports tournament with competing students visiting from a number of other schools. Congratulations to our students, as Silverton where the overall winners on the day. Must have been the home screen advantage! Thank you to Mr Tang for his organisation and to the other staff who helped on the day.

Congratulations to all of the students who competed in division athletics on Monday. A few special mentions: Lucy Thwaites 1st place in high jump, Andrea Basalo 1st place in the hurdles, Lennox Boustead 2nd  place in the 800m and Munir Dolic 2nd place in high jump! Fantastic achievement! All four students will now progress to Regionals. Good luck!

We are very proud of the students who participated in State School’s Spectacular. They had a big three days on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A big thank you to Mrs Connor, Miss Perera and of course Miss Molly for all of the hard work in coaching and supporting our little performers.

A reminder to all of our families that we are currently organising our 2024 Foundation classes and staffing. If you have a child who is due to start school in 2024, can you please return your completed enrolment form to admin. If you require any assistance, please don’t hesitate to pop into admin and ask.

We are now in full concert mode! Congratulations to all students for the way they have been rehearsing here at school. A big thank you to all of our staff for their flexibility as we gear up to our school concert which will be held on Wednesday 4th October. Tickets are still on sale through TryBooking.

Well done to the students who attended the Dandenong Maths games held at Keysborough Primary School on Tuesday this week. Thank you Mr Tang for taking the kids along to the event.

Tomorrow is RUOK Day. It seems fitting that we will have a day focused on looking after each other as we near the end of Term and of course the anniversary of Ms Prosser’s passing. I know that we will look after each other well as we always do.

As a reward to all of our students for the way we have all behaved this Term, we will be walking up to GJ Duggan Reserve at 1:45pm on Thursday as a whole school for a special afternoon in the park. Please contact the office directly if you have any questions regarding our Thursday afternoon in the park. Please make sure we all have our hats on as it will be a warm afternoon!

This Friday 15th September, we will be having our annual Footy Day as we always do on the last day of Term Three. We are planning to do our traditional footy parade at 1:30pm on the oval. Change of location but we think the oval will work better with parents/carers coming in to watch. Just a reminder that we will be wearing red arm bands on Footy Day. It will be an emotional day for our school community, but I am confident that we will look after each other like we always do.

Mrs Blake has asked me to let you all know that she has some parsley and lettuce from our school veggie garden available for purchase after school on Friday for anyone that is interested. Head to the veggie garden at 2:30pm on Friday.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support and I hope you have an enjoyable two weeks school holidays. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 2nd October.

Mark Pollard

Principal
