2023 Newsletter #3

Dear Silverton families,

As we draw close to the end of Term One, I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their efforts in making it a great start to the 2023 school year.

As a school community, we have done a lot of work implementing our new School Wide Positive Behaviour framework and as part of this, establishing new School Values. Thank you to all staff, students and parents for your input. I’m very excited to unveil the five Values that we as a community have decided will be the backbone of our new framework.

This Term, we have been focusing on the Value of Resilience. As a school, we have developed the following Value description to clearly define what it means to be a Resilient Silverton student.

Silverton Primary School students show resilience through perseverance and determination even when they are faced with a challenge.  They display a growth mindset and demonstrate problem solving skills.  Students who are resilient are willing to give things a go when moving out of their comfort zone, especially when trying something new.  They are always proud of their efforts. Resilient students are flexible in their thinking, willing to work with a range of different people and use a variety of different coping strategies.

We will be awarding our first Value award at Monday’s assembly. I’m looking forward to reading the nominations!

I would like to congratulate our Year 3 and Year 5 students for their efforts in participating in NAPLAN. The children did so well and we are extremely proud of them all. Thank you to the staff who supported our students throughout NAPLAN also.

Unfortunately, we had to make the decision to postpone the Year 1/2 beach excursion due to the inclement weather last week. I understand that this was disappointing for our little people, but the thunderstorms presented a safety concern, so we did not want to take any chances. We will aim to find another day later in the year to reschedule.

Congratulations to the students who took part in the School Swimming Competition. They all did so well!

It was lovely to see so many students dressed in their cultural attire on Harmony Day this week. Thank you to our Student Leaders for arranging the day!

It is great to see all of our Year 6 students in their new Year 6 uniform. Just a reminder to all families, please ensure that you are sending your children to school dressed in full school uniform. If you have any questions or require any support regarding uniform, please contact the school.

An update on changes to staffing from the beginning of Term Two:

Miss McNair will be going on maternity leave and so we wish her and her partner all the very best!

Mrs Howard will be taking long service leave for all of Term Two. We hope she enjoys her time off!

Mrs Kyriakos will be the classroom teacher for 12E on Monday/Tuesday during Term Two in Mrs Howard’s absence.

We are excited to welcome back Mrs Vaccaro who will be teaching Junior Music from the beginning of Term Two.

I would also like to officially welcome Jessie Pappas as the newest member of our Education Support team.

The first day of Term Two (Monday 24th April) will be a House Day focusing on our new School Values.

Once again, I would just like to thank you for your ongoing support and I hope everyone enjoys the break.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal (Acting)

SWPB - Student Wide Postive Behaviour

The below Matrix is a document that has been created in consultation with staff and students and is an important resource for our School Wide Positive Behaviour Framework. The matrix outlines the behaviours that we expect all Silverton students to exhibit. I’d really appreciate you taking the time to look at this document with your child(ren) and having a conversation about why it is important that we exhibit positive behaviour at school.

End of Term Term 1 finishes on Thursday 6th April at 2:30pm.

Start of Term 2 Term 2 begins Monday 24th April at 8:50am for assembly.

Roads: Please ensure that you cross the roads at the designated school crossings and that parents do not park in no parking areas such as right in front of the school gate. The rules are in place for the safety of all children and community members. Please do your bit by adhering to the rules and helping us to teach our little people the importance of road safety.

Assembly starts at 8:50am every Monday on the green area. Please make sure that students arrive before start time.

Early Bird Reading and Breakfast Club run on Tuesday – Friday from 8:45am – 9:00am in LC4. We would love to see some more students attending Early Bird Reading!

Arrival time: For safety reasons, students should not arrive at school before 8:45am. This is when staff begin before school yard duty. If you need your child to be supervised earlier than 8:45am, we have an Oshcare service which runs everyday from 7:00am – 8:45am. Please enquire if you require this service.

Pick up time: School finishes at 3:15pm every day. If you require your child to be supervised later than that, please also enquire with our Oschare program.

Uniform: Please also ensure that your child(ren) are in full school uniform. If you have any questions about uniform or require any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Medical: If your child has an asthma or anaphylaxis plan, please ensure a copy of the plan has been provided to the school office.
