2023 Newsletter #2

Dear Silverton Families,

I’d like to start my newsletter by reminding everyone to please ensure that they cross the roads at the designated school crossings and that parents please do not park in no parking areas such as right in front of the school gate. The rules are in place for the safety of all children and community members. Please do your bit by adhering to the rules and helping us to teach our little people the importance of road safety.

Thank you to all families who have responded to our Cultural Survey. I will keep this open until Friday 3rd March so if you haven’t yet responded, I’d really appreciate you taking the time to do so this week. Please click here.

I’m excited to say that after collaboration and input from our parent community, staff and students, we have established our new School Values. Keep an eye out as we will be revealing these very soon!

I’d like to congratulate all of our students and staff for their amazing efforts in exhibiting the expected behaviors outlined in our new School Wide Positive Behaviour framework. Keep up the great work everyone!

Our very lucky Year Six students had a week to remember last week. They spent the whole week away at Camp Kookaburra. I was lucky enough to go along last week and I have to say that I am very proud of the way that our students conducted themselves on camp. Thank you also to the staff that gave up their time to go along and help make it such a memorable week for our students. We appreciate you!!

Thank you to all of the parents and students who attended the Foundation Picnic a few weeks back. It was a great night and it’s always lovely getting to know our new families. Once again, welcome to Silverton! Thank you to the staff who gave up their time to make it a great event.

Earlier this month, we held our first House Day. The students did a range of activities and spent some time focusing on establishing our new School Values. Well done everyone!

Please remember that for all of Term One, students need to have a school hat on whenever they are outside. Can you please ensure that your child(ren) has a hat with them at school every day.

Once again, I would just like to thank you for your ongoing support.

Thank you,

Mark Pollard – Principal (Acting)

Assembly starts at 8:50am every Monday on the green area. Please make sure that students arrive before start time.

Early Bird Reading and Breakfast Club run on Tuesday – Friday from 8:45am – 9:00am in LC4. We would love to see some more students attending Early Bird Reading!

Arrival time: For safety reasons, students should not arrive at school before 8:45am. This is when staff begin before school yard duty. If you need your child to be supervised earlier than 8:45am, we have an Oshcare service which runs everyday from 7:00am – 8:45am. Please enquire if you require this service.

Pick up time: School finishes at 3:15pm every day. If you require your child to be supervised later than that, please also enquire with our Oschare program.

Hats need to be worn at all times when outdoors during Term one. Please ensure your child(ren) have a school hat.

Uniform: Please also ensure that your child(ren) are in full school uniform. If you have any questions about uniform or require any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

Medical: If your child has an asthma or anaphylaxis plan, please ensure a copy of the plan has been provided to the school office.

2023 Grade Six Leaders

On Monday 13th February, Silverton welcomed Counsellor Eden Foster to present the badges to our 2023 Grade Six Leaders. The captains were then invited to celebrate with a morning tea, along with their families in the Gym.

The students have begun the year with enthusiasm and are eager to begin planning activities for the whole school.

Throughout the year they will have the opportunity to attend a variety of leadership excursions, including one as a part of the Marine Ambassadors program and the Victorian Students’ Parliamentary Program (VSPP).
