2022 March Newsletter 3

Silverton Primary School's 2022 Newsletter 3

Again, thank you to the entire school community for continuing to work with and supporting the school to manage COVID. As you see in the daily updates, there are only a few cases each week.

Starting from Monday 28 March we will go back to our normal finishing time of 3.15pm, therefore will be no 3.25pm bell at the end of the day.

A big congratulations to all our Division Swimmers!!

Just a reminder our that our school day commences at 8:50am on Mondays, 9.00am Tuesday - Friday. A student cannot expect to be at class on time for an 8:50/9.00am start if they are coming through the front gate at 8:55am or later. When a student enters the classroom late, they don’t just miss valuable learning time and setting up time, they disrupt the entire class. Thank you to those who are making an effort to be on time.

We are now accepting Prep enrolments for 2023. If you have a child that is ready to start school in 2023, please complete an enrolment form (which can be found on the school website or at the office) and submit it to the school together with a copy of your child's birth certificate, immunisation certificate and any visa details that are relevant. Enrolment forms can be dropped off at the office or emailed to: enrolments@silverton-ps.vic.edu.au

In preparation for the 2022 NAPLAN tests the Year 3 and 5 students will be involved in the nationwide Co-ordinated Practice Test. This will be held on Thursday 24th March

The Co-ordinated Practice tests

  • allow students to become familiar with the online portal and the look of the tests and the types of questions
  • provides the opportunity for ACARA who oversee the NAPLAN testing to assess the capabilities of their system under the pressure of all users accessing the portal.
  • gives us, as a school, the chance to test our own capabilities for running the test and allows us to detect any possible technical issues

Please make sure all Grade 3 and 5 students have their headphones and computers charged on Thursday.

The Crossing Supervisor and teachers has made me aware that many parents when unable to locate a carpark, stop in the middle of the road and let their children out. These students then run across the road into school - with some students narrowly being missed by oncoming traffic. This is a very dangerous act as many cars travel too quickly and the odds of a child being hit are increased.

As a school community, we are all aware of how busy the surrounding streets of our school can be - therefore it is important that children and parents only cross at supervised areas. We ask that all our parents do the right thing and park safely and have your child cross at the designated crossing areas. That way we can keep our children safe.

Unfortunately, last week’s Parent Association AGM Meeting had to be cancelled due to attendance numbers. The Silverton Primary School Parent Association is looking for new members and we would love for you to join in 2022, we will provide more details early next term.

Membership is open to any parent or guardian of a child attending the school or any other interested individual of the immediate school community.

At the moment we don’t a Parent Association committee, therefore I need volunteers to assist with our Open Night BBQ on Tuesday 29 March from 4pm until 7.00pm.   If you can help for one hour or more, please email admin@silverton-ps.vic.edu.au

Shoe Collection

Hello Silverton Primary School,

We are collecting old shoes to be recycled.

Did you know shoes take 1000 years to decompose?

We want to help save the environment and maybe win some prizes too.

Please bring old runners, sneakers, thongs or slides to LC1 for us to collect until Monday March 28th.

These are the only shoes that we can recycle.

Thank you,

Avik, Lola and Nireeksha

Congratulations to all the below #SSS Students of the Week in Term 1
