2022 February Newsletter

Silverton Primary School's 2022 Newsletter
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to Silverton for the 2022 school year!
It was wonderful to see the smiling faces of all our students as they arrived last week. It is with much hope and positivity that we begin the new school year, with every wish that it continues uninterrupted in 2022.
A special welcome goes to all our gorgeous Foundation students and their families. Whether you are a new or existing families, we warmly welcome you all to our Silverton school community. We also welcome some new children and their families in other classes throughout the school.

Grade 1 to 6 Parents only
At Silverton Primary School, we welcome partnerships with families. To help us plan for student learning in 2022, we are providing the opportunity through a Meet and Greet next week for parents and/or carers to:
- Share information about their child/ren
- Discuss how their child has coped during the challenges of 2021
- Let the teacher know any background information that may have bearing on their child’s learning
- Please note that this is a chance for teachers to listen to parents; not a meeting where teachers share academic progress.
When
- Monday 14 February from 3.30pm
- Tuesday 15 February from 3.30pm
- Wednesday 16 February from 3.30pm
How
Registrations Open
- Please register a 10min slot to meet with your child's teacher via the Sentral Portal. The portal will open from 11am Wednesday 9 February.
- Registrations will close at 9.00am Monday 14 February.
- If you are a new family to the school, with a child in Grade 1 - 6, a letter will be emailed to you today detailing how to register for your Sentral Parent Portal.
To Register
- Go to Sentral – Parent Portal via website https://silvertonps.sentral.com.au/portal2/ - and log in to your portal.
- Similar to the booking procedure in the past, once bookings are open, you will be able to make a booking to meet with your teacher by selecting your preferred date and time.
- Your child's teacher will send you an email with a Webex link advising you of the time when you can join them in a 1:1 meeting.
- On the day, the teacher will then invite you into the Webex meeting. You may be placed in a 'waiting room' until the teacher is ready for the meeting. Please note that sessions are scheduled back-to-back. Teachers will endeavour to stay within time limits, however, you may need to wait patiently in the 'waiting room' if the sessions are running slightly behind time.

Personal Goods brought to school at the 'Owners' risk - Reminder from Department of Education
The Department of Education and Training (DET) does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools. Principals have been requested to remind students and parents/guardians of this at the beginning of each academic year and to discourage parents/students from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school. Please, try and avoid bringing these items as it can be most upsetting for all concerned if items go missing or are damaged.

School Hats
We are a SunSmart school at Silverton Primary School. As outlined in our SunSmart policy we must ensure all students are protected by the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. Please make sure your child/ren has a school hat to wear outside.
Playgroup
Don’t forget we run a playgroup for the local community on Wednesday mornings, 9.15 – 11am in our activities room. Everyone is welcome to attend. No cost involved.
More Rapid Antigen Tests will be sent home with your child once they arrive at school.
Thanks for all your support in keeping our school open.
Amanda
