e-Newsletter October 2021

Term 2

Silverton Primary School's October e-Newsletter

We are all back at school on Wednesday 3 November.

Monday 1 November – Curriculum Day – No School

On Friday 29 October, our school will celebrate World Teachers’ Day and recognise the incredible contributions our teachers make to our community. World Teachers' Day is an opportunity for our community to say 'thank you'. On this day, we will recognise the passion our teachers have, and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom to maintain connections through remote learning. Feel free to let our teachers know you appreciate their resilience, leadership and adaptability throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

I would like to remind all families that hats are required for all students when playing outside. With classes likely to be spending a considerable amount of time in the open air over the remainder of the year, hats will be essential.

Looking Ahead to 2022

Whilst we are very proud of our school and believe that it is an exceptional learning environment, we understand that there may be some movement from year to year as families move house or make changes in their lives. To assist with planning for next year, it is important that you please let the school know as soon as possible if your child is relocating schools for 2022.

On that note, should you still need to enrol a child for 2022, please do so as soon as possible.

In the next few weeks, our teachers will begin creating classes for 2022. During this process the teachers consider friendship groups, student personalities, academic levels and many other factors when putting classes together. Our teachers take this process very seriously and put a lot of time and effort into ensuring the classes are put together in the best possible manner. If you have a request regarding the placement of your child into a class for 2022, please email me by Friday 26 November amanda.prosser@education.vic.gov.au

Tutor Program

The Department has announced that the Tutor program will continue next year.   This year we used the money to employ more staff to work in the learning centres during literacy and numeracy time.  It also provided more staff to run 1 to 1 or group intervention programs across the school.

Supporting cyber-safe behaviour

DET have recently become aware of the potential for inappropriate behaviours to occur on Discord, a popular social media application.  Discord is a chat-based social network, targeted at gamers and primarily for adults.  (13 years and over)

To help prevent these behaviours, discord has already been blocked across the department’s network, including student email services.

We need to remind students they should not sign up to external social media applications, such as Discord using their school credentials.

Keeping Silverton Safe

I am seeking the assistance of our families to keep our community safe by keeping children at home who show any sign of illness. It has been a long time for our children to be undertaking home learning, and all it takes is one positive COVID case and the school would close.  This is something that we all must do to keep our community members safe.

We thank the community members of Silverton Primary, for all the support that they have shown the school. We need this to continue once we are all back onsite and if you are unwell, please stay home.

Can’t wait to see everyone on Wednesday.
