Newsletter - March 2021
Silverton Primary School's March 2021 e-Newsletter
Dear Parents,
The recent three days of remote learning came upon us suddenly but to the great credit of teachers and students, the transition to learning from home was managed calmly and with efficiency.
We all remain vigilant in maintaining COVIDSafe environments. Actions such as staying home when unwell, performing regular hand hygiene and wearing a mask if a 1.5m physical distance can’t be maintained.
DET advise that due to ongoing COVID restrictions parents are unable to remain for longer than 15 minutes unless officially signed in for contact tracing purposes. Therefore can I please ask that you don’t enter the courtyard at the end of the day until about 3.10pm.
At this stage no parents are allowed inside any learning spaces without an official appointment or invitation by the teachers.
We understand that the return to school may be an anxious time for some students. If you have any concerns please contact our wellbeing teachers, Mrs Lisa Donnellan Lisa.Donnellan@education.vic.gov.au or Mrs Robyn Howard Robyn.Manhire@education.vic.gov.au by phoning the school office or on their emails.
Grade 6 Camp
I would like to personally congratulate all the Grade 6 students on their great behaviour on camp last week. Thank you to all the Silverton staff that attended the camp. As a Principal it was nice to receive this kind of feedback from the camp’s owners and staff members.
New Students Morning Tea
Last week, I had a special morning tea with Mrs Christina Parra (New Enrolment Coordinator) and all the new Grade 1 to 6 students to Silverton Primary School. All the students informed me they are enjoying Silverton’s curriculum programs like Visual Arts, Sport and Discovery Time and making new friends.
2021 Student Leaders
In December last year many year 5 students nominated themselves as potential school leaders in 2021. This is a significant milestone for these students as they prepare to become such important role models for all other students across the school. One of the qualities crucial for students who represent our school is their ability to speak articulately, passionately and spontaneously about what this school represents and achieves to visitors and as ambassadors when attending outside events. All students presented with amazing confidence and took the stage and spoke of their motivations and visions. We are very proud of you all.
Annual privacy reminder
Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy
Please take time to remind yourself of the school’s collection statement, found on our website.
For more information about privacy, see: Schools’ Privacy Policy – information for parents. This information also available in nine community languages.
Road Safety Reminder
School drop off and pick up times are very busy with a great deal of traffic on Silverton and Redington Drive and Jacksons Road. Obeying parking rules or signs helps keep our students and community safe. Parents need to make sure they use the school crossings where there is an attendant (Brian and Tony) on duty to help and teach students to cross the road safely.
Playgroup
Don’t forget we run a playgroup for the local community on Wednesday mornings, 9.30 – 11am in our activities room. Everyone is welcome to attend. No cost involved.
Don’t forget no school on Monday 8 March, Labour Day.
Take care
Amanda

Some of our student wrote about our House Day...
On Friday all of the Silverton children had House Colour day.
I’m in green house.
First I went on the jumping castle.
Next I went on the waterslide.
Then I ran in the egg race.

On Friday I did paper planes inside the learning centre. We then sang the Melaleuca song and it goes like this…
‘Melaleuca go go go!’
‘Melaleuca go go go!’
‘Melaleuca is the best (clap clap clap)’
‘We are better than the rest (clap clap clap)’
‘Goooooo Melaleuca!’
The day was good.
I am in blue house.
Before lunch I went on the jumping castle.
