March 2020 Newsletter
Welcome to Silverton Primary School's March e-Newsletter.
Dear Parents
I know there is a lot of talk in the media and on social networks about the Coronavirus. It is a very complex and unprecedented situation. We are very aware of the emotions of families in wanting to protect children and family members. Schools are receiving advice from the Department of Education, who is being advised by the Department of Health and Human Services regularly.
The advice of the Chief Health Officer remains at present that our schools should stay open, except in the case of a confirmed case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The full advice can be found here on the Department's website.
This week staff are preparing student learning for a possible school closure. Families who decide to keep their child home prior to a school closure, their weekly home learning will be made available to them.
Support Letter
Last week I sent a support letter to our Sister School in China, Yan Cheng Number One Primary School on behalf of our school community. They were very appreciative of our letter. Click here to see the letters
NAPLAN
Grade 3 and 5 students must make sure they have their laptops and headphones at school on Monday 23 March as we have a National Naplan Online Practice Test.
Annual privacy reminder
Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy.
Please take time to remind yourself of the school’s collection statement, found on our website Collection Statement
For more information about privacy, see: Schools’ Privacy Policy – information for parents. This information is also available in nine community languages.
House Day
On Monday it was great to see happy and smiling students enjoying the activities. Congratulations to our Captains for organising and running the day. Student voice, agency and leadership at its best.
There will be no school assemblies until further notice. Starting time on Mondays remain the same, 8.45am.
Interschool Sports for Grade 5 and 6 students are currently postponed.
Kimandas' Canteen have cancelled their Birthday lunch on Monday due to lack of supplies. They will be open as usual for Lunch Orders and window sales.
Early finish on March 27, at 2.30pm and Term 2 starts on Tuesday 14th April at 9am.
Again, I thank you for your understanding and continued support as we navigate through this evolving situation. Please look after yourselves and each other.
Amanda

Parking around school and Crossings
Please be aware of the street signs around the school when parking and abide by the rules. Also be mindful of our neighbours and do not block their drive ways.
We see many families cutting across Silverton Drive rather than using the crossing. The Crossing is there for your safety, so please make sure you use it.
Parents Association News
Our AGM was held in February and our new committee appointed. Thank you to all who have taken on positions and become involved in helping out. It’s never too late to get involved, come and say hello and let us know if you would like to help.
Last year’s fundraising total was $20 000. This is allocated to upgrade the outdoor area behind LC1 and LC2. It was great to see the shade sails installed in the little kid’s playground, another project the parents association has been involved with. We thank you all for your continued support.
This term we are holding our usual hot cross bun drive and Easter raffle. These will be coming home soon if you haven’t received already.
The hot cross bun orders are due back this Friday 20th March and buns will be distributed on Thursday 26th March.
Raffle tickets are due back by Thursday 26th to be drawn Friday the last day of school.
Stay tuned next term for mother’s day stall, cross country sausage sizzle and other fun events.
