February 2020.2 Newsletter
Welcome to Silverton Primary School's February e-Newsletter.
Congratulations to all our 2020 Student Leaders who were presented with their badges last week at school assembly. We are sure that all of the children selected for these positions, will be fantastic leaders for our school! Thank you to Mrs Loretta Sutherland for attending our special assembly.
2020 School Council Vacancy
We still have one parent vacancy for School Council. If anyone is interested please contact the school office.
Playgroup
Don’t forget we run a playgroup for the local community on Wednesday mornings, 9.00 – 11am in our activities room. Everyone is welcome to attend. No cost involved.
Working With Children Check (WWCC)
We encourage and value parental and community support at Silverton Primary School. There are many ways that parents, grandparents and friends can assist at our school. We encourage all parents to obtain a Working with Children Check that will allow you to be very involved in your child’s education. These checks are free for volunteers and will allow you to be involved as many school events as you require. Once you have your WWCC, please come to the office so we can photocopy this and we will add your name to our list of parents who have a current WWCC check.
Student Accidents Insurance - Reminder from Department of Education
Parents/guardians are reminded that the responsibility for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs rests with parents and guardians.
More details are available here
Personal Goods brought to school at the 'Owners' risk - Reminder from Department of Education
The Department of Education and Training (DET) does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools. Principals have been requested to remind students and parents/guardians of this at the beginning of each academic year and to discourage parents/students from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school. Please, try and avoid bringing these items as it can be most upsetting for all concerned if items go missing or are damaged.
Sun Smart
Sun Smart School Policy requires that your child wears a blue school hat each day between the 1st of September and the end of April. Please ensure your child has one, preferably named, at school each day. Students who do not have a hat will be asked to play under cover. We have a small number of hats available at the office, or they can be purchased from the Uniform Shop, PSW.
Grade 3 to 6 BYOD: Things to remember
- Charge every night
- Report ANY damage immediately
- Check if laptop is labelled and if not ask the ICT team to re-label if necessary
- Remember to restart laptop at least once a week at school
- DO NOT install Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware and Anti-Spyware software on School laptops – this is managed by software already installed and centrally managed by DET/school servers.
- School owned laptops are to be kept clean and damage free
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy)
NAPLAN tests are held in May each year for all students in Years 3 and 5. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. There is also a statewide Co-ordinated Practice Test on Monday 23rd March. All testing is online with the exception of Year 3 Writing.
Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and attended our first working bee for the year.

Parking around school and Crossings
Please be aware of the street signs around the school when parking and abide by the rules. Also be mindful of our neighbours and do not block their drive ways.
We see many families cutting across Silverton Drive rather than using the crossing. The Crossing is there for your safety, so please make sure you use it.
