November 2019 Newsletter
Welcome to Silverton Primary School's e-Newsletter.
Dear Parents,
SWIMMING
Congratulations to everyone involved in the swimming program that will finish this week. It was so good to see so many children participate and the steady progress they made over the sessions. I know from speaking to the children they certainly enjoyed the experience and are a lot more confident around water than they were prior to starting. This is probably a timely reminder to everyone that whilst the children may appear confident swimmers in a controlled environment we should not forget that water accidents can happen very quickly. Please ensure that there is suitable supervision of children when they are near water over the summer period.
GRADE 2 SLEEPOVER
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the students on their behaviour and to all the staff who attended the Grade 2 sleepover. It was a fabulous experience for all students involved.
ASSESSMENT
Each year, during term 4, our teachers are undertaking final assessments to assist them with the writing of Semester 2 Reports.
We have an extensive assessment schedule at Silverton Primary School that enables our assessments to be consistent across and within the various year levels.
To ascertain your child’s mark of their reports teachers use a range of assessment tools. These might include:
- Observations
- Running Records (Reading levels Foundation – 2)
- Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA)
- Online testing – On Demand (Literacy and Maths) / Maths Online Interview
- Progressive Achievement Tests (Reading and Maths)
- Student conferencing notes – discussions and conversations
- Anecdotal notes from lessons
- Work samples
- Discovery Time / Integrated / STEM Projects
- Rubrics
- Self and peer evaluations
All these assessment tasks align with the Victorian Curriculum and combined give a clear view as to where each child is placed on the learning continuum.
Teachers spend a great deal of time analysing assessment results, discussing and conferring with their colleagues to ensure all results accurately reflect the learning levels of each student.
Enrolments and Exits 2020
With the exception of Year 6 students, please notify the school office if your child/children will not be attending our school next year. This will help us in our planning for classrooms and teachers for 2020. Your prompt reply would be greatly appreciated.
