September 2019 Newsletter

Welcome to Silverton Primary School's e-Newsletter.

Dear Parents,

What a sensational busy Term it has been! The 2019 Silverton’s Twisted Tales concert was a huge success. It was so great to see so many excited, slightly nervous and smiling faces over both nights. The children loved their songs and dances and did an amazing job of performing on the big stage. I would like to thank our amazing staff for their hard work and dedication in planning, rehearsing and staging such a wonderful event for our students and the wider Silverton community. An event the students will be remembering for years.  I would also like to thank again, our wonderful parent community who supported and encouraged their children to be involved over the two nights.

Miss Cheng and Miss McNair are very excited as they are travelling to China next week to visit our Sister School, Yancheng No.1 Primary School.  Have a wonderful and safe trip!

School Facilities

Over the holidays the Foundation’s outside courtyard, where the cubbyhouse is located, will be upgraded with synthetic grass, a new pergola, tables, seats and garden area. These funds are still a part of our $2.1 million upgrade money.

NAPLAN Results 2019

Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students on their terrific NAPLAN results that was completed in May. Overall the students at Silverton Primary School have performed extremely well with the NAPLAN testing this year. Their results are above the average of the state, similar (same size, demographic and socio-economic status) schools and local / network schools and reflect the quality teaching and learning programs we have here at Silverton Primary School.

Please keep in mind that NAPLAN tests are an assessment of a student's learning on one day at one time. The teachers conduct regular assessments of our students throughout the year to gain an overall understanding of their learning progress. Please chat with your child's teacher if you have any questions about their NAPLAN results.

2020 Enrolments

Thank you to those that have already enroled for 2020.

Please contact the school office on 9795 5033, if you are wishing to enrol your child at Silverton and would like to arrange a school tour.

Exiting Students

With the exception of Year 6 students, please contact our school office if you are leaving our school for any reason at or prior to the end of Term 4. We will be planning soon for 2020 and need to know our student numbers for next year.

Hats
Please note from Monday, 16th September, all students must wear a sun smart hat when playing outside at school. Hats are available for purchase at our uniform supplier PSW or we have a limited amount available in the school office. Students who do not have a sun smart hat will be required to stay under cover during play times.

End of Term 3

Term 3 ends on Friday 20th September. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite footy/sporting clothes. The canteen will only be open for window sales as the Parents Association are running a special hot dog lunch (order forms available on the Sentral Parent Portal/App).

Please note the earlier finish time on this day of 2:30pm.

Term 4 recommences on Monday 7th October at 8:50am for assembly.

Lastly I would like to wish our State School Spectacular students all the best for this weekends performances at Rod Laver Arena.
