After months of virtual learning and virtual playdates, there are bound to be some challenges as we return to the scheduled chaos of modern life.  With the return to full time schooling next week we understand that our students will be feeling a range of different emotions.  Some will be excited, others nervous and many a mixture of both.  Here are some tips to help with this transition.

Tip 1) Try and make your mornings as stress free as possible, a morning routine is a really good place to start.

  1. Prepare as much as you can the night before
  2. Identify and overcome distractions
  3. Make your morning routine visual
  4. Delegate some responsibility

Tip 2) It is really important to keep up the positive conversation about school at home when your little one might be feeling a bit nervous about the return to school.  Here are some really good conversation starters to ask your children about their school day.

What games did you play at recess?

What was the funniest thing that happened today?

Who made you smile today?

What new fact did you learn today?

If one of your classmates could be the teacher for the day who would you want it to be? Why?

Tell me something you learned about a friend today.

When did you feel most proud of yourself today?

What rule was the hardest to follow today?

Tip 3) Remember that everyone is unique and the way in which we are going to feel about the return to ‘a more normal life’ will be different for everyone including our kids.  Allowing students to go at their own pace and express their emotions will help.

We can’t wait to see everyone back at school!
